Sony expands G Master super-telephoto line with FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS and FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS
FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS and its companion FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS bring new handheld super-telephoto options to Sony’s G Master lineup. Announced September 15, 2026, the two primes pair lightweight, compact bodies with advanced optics, XD Linear Motors for fast AF, and Optical SteadyShot for stabilized handheld shooting; U.S. pricing is listed for each model below and both models have a first customer ship date of October 15, 2026.
FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS highlights
The FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS offers G Master-class resolution in an unusually compact package. At just 995 grams and 263 mm long, the lens is designed to expand handheld super-telephoto capability for wildlife and sports photographers who need reach without the weight and bulk of traditional long primes.
FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS highlights
The FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS uses a similarly compact approach at 994 grams and 242 mm length, delivering a brighter aperture and excellent balance for handheld work. Optical design, Nano AR Coating II, and individual spherical-aberration calibration combine to produce high-resolution images with smooth G Master bokeh.
Optics, stabilization, and autofocus
Both lenses use Super ED and ED glass elements plus Nano AR Coating II to minimize aberration, flare, and ghosting. Each design features an 11-blade circular aperture for pleasing out-of-focus rendering. Fast, precise autofocus is driven by two XD Linear Motors and refined AF algorithms to support reliable subject tracking for birds, fast wildlife, and sports action. Optical SteadyShot with selectable modes helps maintain sharp framing when shooting handheld.
Reach and flexibility
Each lens supports the SEL14TC 1.4x and SEL20TC 2.0x teleconverters to extend reach when required: the 600 mm can reach up to 1200 mm with converters, and the 400 mm up to 800 mm. A function ring, focus hold buttons, and a focus-range limiter allow quick customization for different shooting styles and faster focusing in the field.
Designed for the field
Both models have dust- and moisture-resistant designs and a fluorine coating on the front element to make cleaning easier. The lenses include removable soft cases with straps, lens hoods, front and rear caps, and tripod-mount hardware for flexible support options.
