RØDECaster Pro to add multitrack via firmware update

At NAMM, RØDE announced an upcoming firmware update.

In response to virtual rocks thrown by some content producers who demanded multitrack capabilities, this morning at NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) in California, the Australian manufacturer announced an upcoming firmware update for the RØDECaster Pro mixer/compressor/gate/recorder to fulfill their desires. The new 1.1.0 firmware will replace the current palindromic 1.0.1 version which came installed in the review unit I recently received. Ahead are the details of the selectable multitrack feature, links to my prior coverage of the RØDECaster Pro and to my mailing list for upcoming ones.

Multitrack recording on the RØDECaster Pro

According to the manufacturer, the multitrack feature will record 14 tracks:

  • A stereo ‘live mix’ track, as featured on the RØDECaster Pro since its release
  • A mono track for each of the 4 microphone inputs
  • A stereo track each for the USB, 3.5mm TRRS, Bluetooth and sound pad channels

To activate multitrack recording, simply access the Advanced settings in the Hardware section of the RØDECaster Pro’s touchscreen interface. From there, a single switch engages ‘Multi-Channel’ mode for multitrack recording.

The press release I received this morning doesn’t indicate whether multitrack recording is for for internal recording only (within the RØDECaster Pro), available via USB only… or both. I asked RØDE and will update this article as soon as I receive a response. I also asked whether if to be recorded internally, whether they will be separate WAV files or a single polyphonic WAV file. If you refresh this page in a few hours, it should be updated.

RØDE says that the 1.1.0 firmware update will be available to download in February from rode.com/rodecasterapp and that there will be more improvements forthcoming. Be sure to subscribe (or re-subcsribe) to my mailing list to me notified of my upcoming articles.

With Google Fi (covered previously in several articles), there is no extra charge for data-only SIM cards on the same account, for up to 10 devices. You only pay for the total data, and data is free after 6 GB per month. So you could be using one Google FI SIM card on your primary phone, another in a tablet or secondary phone (or third, of fourth…).
