The Ruiying Z10 camera accessory designed for the Collector’s Edition features a 50MP sensor 1-inch type sensor paired with a 24–240mm f/2.0-4.5 lens, for 10x of continuous optical zoom.
At the Mobile World Congress, in 2025, both Xiaomi and Realme introduced their projects to use interchangeable lenses for smartphones, an idea that has been around for years: using external lenses to get better quality images and video from a smartphone. It’s nothing new, the most popular project being Sony’s QX series, which included four models, the QX1, QX10 and QX30 and QX100, the Smart Lens series, designed to be used with a smartphone. With a 20.2 megapixels, 1-inch sensor paired with a 28-100mm ƒ/1.8 / ƒ/4.9 Carl ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens, the lens was compatible with both Android and iOS. We wrote an article about the subject, which you can read following the link above.
Now, Huawei, a brand that has vanished from western markets, shows its own take on the concept of interchangeable lenses for smartphones, with the Huawei’s Ruiying Z10 module camera, built around a 50MP 1-inch RYYB sensor paired with a 24-240mm /2.0-f/4.5, a 10x continuous optical zoom (a real zoom). The new accessory module, though, is only compatible with the Collector’s Edition version of the Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max. The camera module kit also has a lens collar accessory, similar to those used on long lenses, for tripod support.

The base version of the smartphone, Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max (the ProMax designation is now the trend name for flagship smartphones) is still a very capable model: it features a triple rear camera setup, with a 50MP main camera (24mm) with variable aperture (f/1.4-f/4.0), a 200MP periscope telephoto (89mm f/2.6) which presents a 4x optical zoom, and a 40MP ultrawide (13mm f/2.2). The phone supports 4K video recording and includes a 13MP ultrawide selfie camera with autofocus.
The Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max has a suggested price (converted) around $1,500 for the 16GB/512GB version, while the Collector’s Edition costs around $1,700 for the same 16GB/512GB.. The Collector’s Edition Pro Camera Kit, which includes the Ruiying Z10 camera module and other accessories, has a price around $2,900.
