Attention Blackmagic PYXIS 12K owners!

Blackmagic Design has announced a recall for select PYXIS 12K camera units. The issue affects cameras produced and shipped before serial number 14221337. According to the recall notice, “there can be image artifacts when pushing some of the camera settings” on approzimately 10% of the units.

In addition, customers who already replaced their cameras earlier may still experience this issue, as the resellers could have swapped their cameras with still problematic ones (the pre-serial number 14221337 batch).

The sensor on the PYXIS 12K has been updated to Revision B. If you have a PYXIS 12K camera, you’ll want to make sure that you have this new sensor board.

While the recent Facebook post sharing the news garnered positive responses, a brief foray into Reddit shows that PYXIS 12K users have been noticing banding issues for months. B&H’s reviews of the PYXIS 12K also share that footage from the camera had horizontal noise patterns.

The recall notice states that “The Blackmagic PYXIS 12K was purposefully designed to let cinematographers experience the quality, resolution, and dynamic range of the Blackmagic 12K sensor at a lower cost. It’s the same sensor used on the URSA Cine 12K. It’s an amazing sensor, and we want everyone to get the best performance out of it.”

The PYXIS 12K was announced in April 2025 and currently retails for $5,495.
