This year, NAB Show in Vegas only takes over three out of the four halls. South Hall belongs to sleep-deprived rabid fans wearing custom outfits. And while that may sound like NAB Show fare, WrestleMania was an entertaining and curious addition to the show floor, even if it wasn’t technically with the show.

Each of the convention halls beckons you in with large graphics. “Welcome, Wrestling Fans!” on the South Hall. NAB Show Sponsors from a specific editing entity for the North and Central. And in this video editing software showdown, Adobe is making waves with a new debut, not unlike WWE wrestlers, with a new way to think about color and a brand new way to edit locally. Adobe’s sign beckons you in with a “Stream locally. Work globally.” message.

Which brings us to two essential questions: what would Adobe Premiere’s walkout music be? And, how do these two new innovations, Color Mode and Frame.io Drive, help editors continue to “punch above their weight class” by implementing color correction in a new way and managing the bottleneck of file downloads?

Both of Premiere’s new innovations appear to be directly influenced by editors’ current workflows and the hurdles they face. Color Mode is a radically new way to think about color in Adobe Premiere. Currently inside Adobe Premiere (Beta), Color Mode allows for more precise adjustments, has brand new color controls that adjust in real time, implements bi-directional control (up and down, left and right), and allows you to adjust color by applying it to clips, groups, or sequences. Color controls also include new Zones for application (Global, Highlight, Shadow), modules with film emulations, and specific styles.

Frame.io Drive aims to fix the “download problem” for editors: the infamous moment when your project is dependent on sending files and downloading files for video editing. Remember when we had to bike messenger hard drives? We’re a long way from that now. Cloud video editing workflows through Frame.io Drive hopes to be the solution. You can “mount” projects (sounds like a hard drive!) and start jamming immediately. This works across different project types (After Effects, etc) and also works with every Frame.io account type, though there is a waitlist for the product.
