Tool Tip Tuesday for Adobe Premiere Pro: Video and Audio Usage columns 2

Welcome to Tool Tip Tuesday for Adobe Premiere on ProVideo Coalition

Have you ever wanted to see if and/or where footage has been used in your project?

There is an easy way to do just that using the Video Usage and Audio Usage metadata columns in a bin. First set you clips to list view and head to the bin “hamburger” menu next to the name in the bin’s tab. Then head down to Metadata Display.

With the Metadata Display open search for the term “usage” and you will find both Video Usage and Audio Usage which can be checked to turn on.

When those metadata columns are checked on they will show where video and audio from clips have been used in the existing project. This doesn’t work across a Production as a Production is made up of invididual projects.

Back in the bin, while in list view, the Video Usage and Audio Usage metadata columns will show what sequences a clip has been used in.

If you want to open one of those usage instances, just click on the usage and that timeline will open.

If you like this particular metadata setup, you can save this as a Project View Preset by heading back to the bin hamburger menu and choosing Save As New View Preset. I have many different metadata presets, and you should too, as they make navigating clip data much easier. If you really want to make things fast, then you can Download my free set of Adobe Premiere Pro Project View Presets and many useful presets will be there for you.

Bonus tip: If you are in the thumbnail view in a bin, then clips that have been used in the sequence will show a blue audio or video icon, in the lower right-hand corner of the thumbnail. Hover over those icons to see audio and video usage while in thumbnail view as well.
