Despite there being several better browsers available, some of us must still keep the Google Chrome browser installed in our computer for certain special cases, due to serious dependance—or preference—for Chrome from certain online production services like Cleanfeed (Pro) for the studio, Descript Rooms (derived from SquadCast.fm, now with exclusive 48 kHz audio sampling) Riverside.fm, Source Connect Now and Zencastr. Sadly, the Google Chrome browser has recently been observed automatically downloading a roughly 4GB AI model, Gemini Nano, for on-device use. This happens without the user’s explicit knowledge or permission, according to CNET, Neowin, OSTechNix, Tom’s Hardware and me. If the file is simply deleted, Chrome will download it again, without our knowledge or permission. Ahead are some suggested ways to prevent or reverse that (if you don’t like the concept).

In the above video, BrenTech shows us how to prevent and automatically remove the undesired file/service with a couple of clicks within Chrome. That’s the one I did.
