Videocopilot.net have released some stellar plugins in the past and their Jet Strike pack for the Element 3D plugin is no exception.
For those not in the know, Element 3D is a Videocopilot plugin for Adobe After Effects that allows the import, animation and rendering of 3D objects right inside After Effects. It has a fully 3D workspace that supports After Effects Camera and lights.
Jet Strike is a 3D model pack for Element 3D that includes 11 highly detailed aircraft models. You can learn more about the Jet Strike pack by watching this video review from IndependentVFX.
What's great about the Jet Strike pack is that the models can be used in other 3D packages as well – they aren't limited to Element 3D. You can also customise the aircraft textures and each aircraft model comes fully rigged with animating flight control surfaces and landing gear. However this animation is specific to Element 3D and won't work inside other apps.
Although Element 3D doesn't offer ray-traced rendering and radiosity like other high end dedicated 3D packages, it can still produce some near-photoreal results. For a tutorial on this check out IndependentVFX's two part tutorial on creating realistic jet scenes inside Adobe After Effects.
IndependentVFX is a youtube channel created by South African VFX artist Scott Newman, who is a big fan of the versatility of After Effects. IndependentVFX focuses mainly on After Effects tutorials for independent film-makers and VFX enthusiasts.
