Whether you need a big-screen virtual display for gaming or to watch the most recent blockbuster, Asus has the solution on display at CES 2026: the ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses.

Although announced as gaming glasses, the Asus ROG XREAL points towards an immersive experience that’ll redefine how you view your favorite content. The glasses may not offer the quality of VR/AR headsets, at only 1080p, but the weight is only 91 grams, and you get a 171-inch 240Hz virtual screen. Wear the ROG XREAL R1 Glasses like you would any other pair of glasses, and you’ll see a virtual screen floating in front of you. The wearable display’s gaming-ready specs ensure said screen is ready for all types of gaming experiences,  while offering users, even those with little physical space, the means to get the display of their dreams.

According to Asus ”the glasses’ 57 field of view (FOV) gives you a spacious virtual image as well as a good look at the real world, enabling you to see more and do more. This FOV means that using the ROG XREAL R1 glasses is like sitting in front of a whopping 171-inch display from four meters away. Whether you’re playing blockbusters or watching them, you’ll have the massive screen you need to properly enjoy the biggest entertainment.”

By default, the ROG XREAL R1 puts a virtual screen in front of your eyes that moves with every turn of your head, keeping your content front and center. For an experience that’s more similar to using a standard display that you can look away from as necessary, you can toggle Anchor Mode. Requiring no additional software on the connected device and powered by the glasses’ built-in 3D depth of field (DoF) technology, Anchor Mode allows you to pin your display to a fixed virtual position.  Look away from it, Asus adds, “and see the real world or — if you’re gaming — your other screens. Thanks to the display’s ultra-high refresh rate, images on the virtual screen will stay sharp and crisp even as your head is in motion. The glasses will even adapt their brightness to match your environment’s lighting. You can also tint them manually.”

The ROG XREAL R1 glasses include Sound by Bose technology optimized to suit the hardware’s form factor and to give you a world-class listening experience whether you’re gaming, watching movies, or jamming to your favorite tunes. The glasses are also versatile, with a bundled ROG Control Dock, a docking station that makes multi-device at-home setups simple. They can also be used anywhere you go: plug them to a handheld game console – like the ROG Xbox Ally X – to make every screen experience a big-screen experience.

Asus adds that “and even if you are traveling by plane, bus or train, with nothing but a tiny smartphone, you can plug the ROG XREAL R1 Glasses into it (assuming your phone has a USB-C port) and turn your doomscrolling into a big-screen spectacle”. You’ll be in a virtual movie theater while everyone around you is stuck with tiny phone screens on a cramped commute.

The ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses will be available in the first half of 2026, but Asus has not yet announced the price.
