Blackmagic Design Inc. today announced Linux support for DeckLink, Intensity and Multibridge products. Support includes the software driver, Media Express 2.0 and an SDK for developers. Linux support now means any DeckLink, Intensity and Multibridge product from Blackmagic Design can be plugged into computers running Mac OS X, Windows and Linux, and moved between platforms as customers choose.
Linux support for Blackmagic Design products will be on display at NAB 2009 at the Blackmagic Design booth SL10820.
With Media Express 2.0 on Linux, it’s possible to build a very powerful and low cost creative workstation for broadcasters and post production customers who want to take advantage of the emerging creative tools on the Linux platform.
Media Express 2.0 supports direct capture and playback of QuickTime, AVI and DPX files. Linux based video software is compatible with one or more of these formats and can be used with media captured with Media Express 2.0 on Linux. Media files are fully compatible between Mac, Windows and Linux platforms, allowing for greater collaboration between people in creative workflows.
For developers, Blackmagic Design has a full featured version of its Software Developer Kit (SDK) that allows any software developer to build custom Linux solutions. With products such as Blackmagic Design’s DeckLink SDI at only US$295, customers now have a true 10 bit SD and HD-SDI capture and playback solution with tri-sync/black burst reference, low SDI jitter and RS-422 deck control that’s extremely affordable. When combined with low cost PC hardware, Linux developers now have everything they need to build high end broadcast solutions.
“I am extremely excited about finally announcing support for Linux. Over the last year it has become one of the most asked questions from our customers and developers, and I think with the new DeckLink range of capture cards, it will be a perfect combination.” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “From broadcasters who need lots of low cost creative workstations, post production doing heavy 3D work to developers creating custom solutions, I think Linux support is going to be a bit hit with customers!”
