The Blackmagic PYXIS 12K has officially been added to Netflix’s Approved Camera List, marking another major milestone for the company’s lineup of cinema cameras aimed at premium film and television production.

Netflix’s approval list, formally titled “Cameras and Image Capture: Requirements and Best Practices,” outlines the technical standards cameras must meet to qualify for use on Netflix Originals productions. The requirements evaluate several key image capture benchmarks, including dynamic range, resolution, codec quality, workflow compatibility, and overall image integrity throughout post-production pipelines.

Under Netflix guidelines, at least 90% of a program’s final runtime must be captured using approved cameras in order to meet the streamer’s production standards.

The PYXIS 12K now joins several other Blackmagic cameras already approved by Netflix, including the Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65, Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF, Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K OLPF, and Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2.

For cinematographers and producers, Netflix certification often serves as more than a technical checkbox and may influence equipment rental decisions and studio approval processes. With the PYXIS 12K now officially recognized, productions looking for compact large-format acquisition with high-resolution capture and Blackmagic RAW workflow integration gain another viable option for premium streaming content.
