While the initial news came out earlier this year, Aputure has officially announced the availability of the STORM CS32, marking the brightest fully tunable color point-source fixture in the company’s history. Designed to bridge the gap between heavy-duty cinema output and single-operator portability, the STORM CS32 incorporates Aputure’s advanced BLAIR-CG light engine, delivering light output on par with a traditional 4K HMI fixture while offering full-spectrum color control.

High Output Meets BLAIR-CG Spectrum Quality

At the core of the STORM CS32 is Aputure’s latest BLAIR-CG (Blue, Lime, Amber, Indigo, Red, Cyan, Green) 7-emitter LED architecture. By introducing dedicated Indigo and Extended Red emitters, the fixture achieves a comprehensive spectral distribution that enhances natural skin tones and fluoresces subjects realistically.

The unit features an ultra-wide CCT range from 1,800K to 20,000K, backed by impressive color fidelity ratings including an SSI (P3200) of 93 and an SSI (CIE D5600) of 92. For granular control, cinematographers can take advantage of full 100% plus/minus green adjustment across the entire ASC MITC range, along with HSIC+ and x,y coordinate color tuning that covers over 90% of the Rec. 2020 color space. When paired with its included medium reflector, the CS32 produces a staggering 105,300 Lux at 3 meters (5600K), delivering punch and throw typically reserved for massive HMI heads.

Smart Power Management & Single-Person Workflow

Power flexibility is a major focus of the STORM CS32’s design. The fixture automatically detects available circuit capacity when plugged into standard 120V household outlets and scales to the circuit’s safe limit. When connected to a higher-capacity power distribution line, the light unlocks an additional 25% output boost, reaching its full 4K HMI equivalent performance.

“Our goal was the impossible light—can we make a fixture with no compromises in light output and light quality yet still remain lightweight?” said Mitch Gross, Director of Marketing for Aputure. “With each new product, our engineers push to cram in as much performance as possible while continuing to reduce size and slash weight… High Output, Full Spectrum, Small Size. Despite its extreme power output, the physical design keeps single-person operation practical. The lamp head weighs 17.0 kg (37.5 lbs) with dimensions of 36.0 × 39.7 × 33.1 cm, while the companion control box weighs 10.8 kg (23.8 lbs) with dimensions of 34.5 × 16.0 × 37.6 cm. This compact division of weight allows an operator to transport the lamp head in one hand and the control box with cables in the other.
