The ECM-AX10 is the world’s first Eclipsa Audio certified microphone for smartphones while the ECM-W5 features direct-to-camera 32bit float audio recording and wireless monitoring.
Sony’s ECM-AX10 is the world’s first Eclipsa Audio-certified microphone for smartphones. Eclipsa Audio is an open-source spatial audio technology based on the IAMF specification, available under a royalty-free license from the Alliance for Open Media. It provides users with premium media technology, delivering immersive, spatial soundscapes through multi-channel setups and Ambisonics audio.
Created for vloggers, smartphone filmmakers and mobile content creators, the ECM-AX10 helps capture video sound that feels more natural, immersive and true to the moment. Its four built-in omnidirectional microphone capsules record sound from multiple directions, while Sony’s spatial audio processing recreates a sense of space, direction and distance that can make smartphone videos feel more engaging for viewers.
Small and lightweight, the microphone connects directly to compatible smartphones via USB-C4 and gives creators three easy ways to capture sound: Ambisonics recording for spatial audio production, binaural recording for an immersive headphone experience and stereo recording for everyday videos and social content.
When used with Sony’s dedicated Spatial Audio Video Tool app, creators can, Sony says, “shoot video, check footage, make simple edits and export content with spatial audio. This allows users to complete the entire production workflow for spatial audio video on their smartphone.”
Sony also introduced the ECM-W5 wireless microphone for video creators, combining high-quality audio capture, stable wireless transmission and versatile recording features to support a more flexible production workflow across a wide range of shooting scenarios.
The system pairs two transmitters with one receiver. It transmits over a line-of-sight distance of up to 500m and is designed to reduce audio dropouts in congested radio-frequency environments. Through the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe, 32bit float audio travels digitally and directly to a compatible camera and records with video in a single file. Up to 64 GB of built-in memory enables 32bit float backup audio recording directly on the transmitter. Integration with compatible Sony wireless headphones enables cable-free monitoring and microphone functions.
Power supply and linked power control through the MI Shoe on compatible cameras support an efficient workflow from recording through editing. The supplied USB Type-C adapter also enables connection to smartphones and PCs5. The transmitters and receiver are also sold separately, supporting configurations such as up to four-channel recording and multi-camera production.
The ECM-W5 Wireless Microphone kit is available for $399.99. The ECM-AX10 Spatial Audio Microphone for Smartphones has a suggested retail price of $249.99.
