Nikon has released Firmware Version 1.10 for the Nikon ZR, delivering a meaningful set of updates aimed squarely at improving on-set workflow, long-form recording reliability, and post-production efficiency.

One of the headline additions is support for timecode input over a wired connection, allowing the Nikon ZR to synchronize cleanly with external audio recorders and additional cameras. For multi-camera shoots or professional audio workflows, this alone elevates the ZR’s usefulness in documentary, event, and narrative production environments.

File management also gets a welcome upgrade. Firmware 1.10 introduces a RED-style file-naming system to prevent duplicate filenames and streamline handling of large volumes of footage. For shooters juggling multiple cards, long days, or multi-camera setups, this change quietly removes a real-world headache.

Long-form recording sees a dramatic improvement as well. The maximum continuous recording time has been extended from 125 minutes to 360 minutes (six hours), enabling uninterrupted coverage of interviews, live events, performances, and observational documentary work without constant resets.

Monitoring tools are improved with the addition of a maximum brightness warning line in the histogram or waveform monitor, helping operators spot potential highlight clipping before it becomes a problem—particularly useful when shooting high-contrast scenes or working fast without time for repeated exposure checks.
