He called out the importance of balancing moments of heaviness with levity, and explained how bit of comedy helped to prevent the drama from becoming overwhelmingly bleak. This tonal balance was achieved through careful editorial decisions that calibrated actors’ performances, especially in scenes blending humor and sorrow. Galster talked through how The Madison is resonating with viewers who have experienced loss and connects to a core element of the show, which is about real-life coping mechanisms amid grief.

“People are connecting with that sense of loss, because they can relate it to something in their lives,” Galster said.
