This week Glenn Garland is joined by Dean Zimmerman to discuss his editing on Stranger Things, for which he was nominated once for an Eddie and three times for a Primetime Emmy, winning the Emmy once. Dean has also edited such projects as Jumper, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and Secret of the Tomb. Date Night, Free Guy, The Adam Project, All the Light We Cannot See, Deadpool & Wolverine.

The two discuss the editorial challenges and creative processes involved in concluding such a beloved and complex series as well as the importance of pacing, noting the deliberate use of slower moments to allow emotional closure that can stretch back to previous seasons.

“We felt like we’ve earned it,” Zimmerman said. “We’ve earned the time to reflect on five seasons of this incredible show.”

The two also discuss character development, emotional resonance, the nuanced portrayal of Will’s transformation and a reflection on the enduring impact of “Stranger Things” as a phenomenon that connects multiple generations through its storytelling.
