In the latest episode of Editors on Editing, host Glenn Garland is joined by film editor Pamela Martin to discuss her work on the biographical drama Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere. Known for editing such films as Little Miss Sunshine and King Richard, shares her creative process, editing choices and collaboration with director Scott Cooper.

The film captures a pivotal period in Bruce Springsteen’s life and career, focusing less on a traditional biopic’s full arc and more on a specific, transformative chapter. Martin highlights the film’s unique narrative structure, noting how it opens with scenes from Springsteen’s childhood, transitions to his early successes, and explores his internal struggles through intercut flashbacks and sound design. She also praised director Cooper’s artistic vision and the unified support from producers and the real-life figures involved.

“Everybody from the producers to the studio execs to my crew, we were all making the same movie,” Martin said, which contributed to what she called a “career highlight.”
