The first half of the year was action-packed for After Effects, with months of big features, AI and freemium competition, and 3rd-parrty news. The current release of AE is September 2026 release (version 26.5). Video summaries of 26.3 were linked earlier. We can expect the end of year push soon to finalize more beta features, with a possible announcement at Adobe Max, planned for November 8-12.
With various Fixed issues and Known issues, the September 2026 release (version 26.5) included:

There’s a ton of AE tools being released, and yes tool extension is probably the key to AE’s survival. School of Motion showed Three NEW After Effects Plug-ins a few weeks ago: Putty (a better mesh warp), Sumi Ink, and Entropy particles.
