The Polaroid RGB LED Camera/Camcorder Light

(MSRP $100)

We’ve seen a ton of various multicolor LED lights and panels over the years and I’ve tested & reviewed quite a few. But this one really caught my eye because of the variety of color options AND – a Bluetooth app controller from your smartphone!

The whole kit comes in a case for easy storage and portability and serves well for small interviews, backlighting, product photography and colored mood/designer accent lighting. And being app-controlled, you can place it where you don’t need to touch it to have full control over the light functions. It even works directly off AC power (adapter not included) if you need to let it run for hours.

What You Get

Specs & Details

Using the manual controls on the light itself is as intuitive as any other LED blending light. It also has a digital readout to give you brightness intensity and color temperature information.

It provides nice even lighting for the relatively small size of the fixture, which includes both 144 3200K LEDs and 144 5600K LEDs that are blended to provide a mixed tone.

You can download and install the free “fi light” app to control your light remotely. With the app connected to your light, you can selectively choose either warm to cool tones with a slider, or mix your own custom blend using the RGB color wheel and intensity sliders.

Using the 32 large RGB LEDs spaced evenly among the other 288 cool/warm LEDs, you can get a nearly unlimited blend of colors of any combination imaginable.

There are also several custom style effects you can select that will fade, strobe and mix colors automatically for you in addition to the solid color tones you apply.

For endurance testing, I set the light on Seven Color Strobe Flash setting, turned-down the speed and left it plugged into an AC adapter for 4-5 hours at a time to use as a backdrop light for our band. We’ve used it for several gigs now and I’ve directed folks to Amazon.com several times as a result.

In the Studio

I wanted to see how much color the light could throw on a backdrop when in the studio and other model lights are active and was pleasantly surprised how bright it was. I tried to match the corporate color of the manufacturer’s product for a catalog shoot (shown below with just an iPhone photo representation) and I was surprised how close it came.

So seriously – Check out the Polaroid RGB LED Camera/Camcorder Light on Amazon.com. For $100 it’s really tough to beat for the variety of uses you will get out of it.
