NAB 2014 is just around the corner and I’m happy to once again be leading several sessions at the Post|Production World Conference. Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro CC and panel discussions are on the agenda amongst all the other things at NAB. I’m always humbled and honored that a random editor from Nashville, Tennessee gets to interact with editors and production folks from all over the world during these sessions. As I’ve said before, I learn as much as they do.
Avid Media Composer sessions
The first (from 2:00 pm – 3:15) is Keeping Your Avid Project’s Organized for a Bulletproof Workflow. This will be one of those utilitarian classes with subject matter that can be applied to move every job one would cut in Media Composer. No matter what the job you’re editing set-up, organization and overall project management is important and there’s a lot of things you can do within Media Composer to help.
The second (from 3:30 pm – 4:45 pm) is Media Composer Hidden Gems: 15 Things to Make Editing Faster. This will be a fun class with a bullet point list of things to do within Avid Media Composer. Some will be interface tweaks others will be little known features. Some will be things I do to speed up my cutting while others will be tips I’ve learned from other editors over the years. This one is going to be an information packed hour-fifteen that I’m looking forward to.

Hot Panels!
Last year was the first year for Post|Production World to end the week days with panel discussions. I sat on several of them and they were good fun and very informative. The audiences were full and everyone seemed to enjoy these lively discussions.
On Hot Panel: The Art of Editing (Tuesday, April 8 5:00 pm – 6:15 pm) I’ll join Hector Berrebi, Maxim Jago, Christine Steele and moderator Jeff Greenberg for a more craft-based discussion on editing and post-production. These topics always seem to veer into technology talk as well but I’m excited to be on a panel that isn’t a tech panel.
On Wednesday, April 9 from 5:00 pm – 6:15 pm I’ll be moderating Hot Panel: The Future of Editing. I’m very excited about this one as moderating one of these things will be a new experience for me. Sitting in on this panel will be Steve Martin, Jason Osder, Abba Shapiro and Michael Wohl. These are some big brains with a lot of experience in editing and post-production so I’m sure we’ll get a lot of visions of what we have in store for both the tools we use and the markets we work in.
To attend any of these sessions you have to be part of the Post|Production World conference. The different registration packages you can buy to attend are listed on the class pages I linked to above. Both a Post|Production World pass and a SMART Pass has access to these sessions as well as many others.
