ZEISS to unveil major advancement in lens technology

ZEISS to unveil major advancement in lens technology at Los Angeles Showroom, debuting what the company describes as “a new horizon in Zeiss lens technology”.

The invitation from ZEISS is clear: “Join us as we move beyond tradition and launch the next major advancement in lens technology.” ZEISS Cinematography will host an exclusive evening event on Tuesday, June 2 at the ZEISS Cinema Showroom in Sherman Oaks, California, marking the debut of what the company describes as “a new horizon in Zeiss lens technology”.

ZEISS has been busy this year. Besides announcing the expansion, in February, of the Otus line of lenses for photography, last March the ZEISS Cinema Showroom in Los Angeles opened its doors for an exclusive screening, filmmakers Q&A and hands-on showcase of the new ZEISS Aatma lens family, which debuted at BSC Expo, in London, early February. In May the company announced the launch of CinCraft LensCore, a novel solution for creating physically based cinematic lens looks for visual effects and animation.

Built on the Virtual Lens Technology, this new Nuke plugin brings decades of ZEISS optical expertise into post-production, bridging the gap between on-set lens choices and the VFX pipeline. With CinCraft LensCore, ZEISS offers compositing artists a toolset dedicated to achieving cinema-grade lens looks grounded in the characteristics and physics of real lenses.

Building on the success of the ZEISS CinCraft ecosystem, the new Virtual Lens Technology, introduced in 2025, at FMX, introduced a one-click lens characteristic simulator that replicates the behavior of real-world optics within a 2D compositing environment. The Virtual Lens aims, the company said then, “ to further bridge the gap between production and post by enabling visual effects artists to achieve photorealistic, lens-true results with greater efficiency and consistency.”

Now ZEISS shares, weeks after the 2026 NAB Show ends, a surprising announcement of an event to unveil major advancement in lens technology. The invitation-only gathering, scheduled from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, will give industry professionals the first opportunity to experience the new technology firsthand before a wider release.

Further details on the announcement have not yet been disclosed, though the event signals a notable development from one of the industry’s most established optical manufacturers. The registration page at EventBrite shows a dark image – of a lens? – but it does not reveal much about the event that will allow attendees to “Experience a new Horizon in ZEISS Lens Technology”.
