Sony’s ECM-AX10 is the world’s first Eclipsa Audio-certified microphone for smartphones. Eclipsa Audio is an open-source spatial audio technology based on the IAMF specification, available under a royalty-free license from the Alliance for Open Media. It provides users with premium media technology, delivering immersive, spatial soundscapes through multi-channel setups and Ambisonics audio.
Created for vloggers, smartphone filmmakers and mobile content creators, the ECM-AX10 helps capture video sound that feels more natural, immersive and true to the moment. Its four built-in omnidirectional microphone capsules record sound from multiple directions, while Sony’s spatial audio processing recreates a sense of space, direction and distance that can make smartphone videos feel more engaging for viewers.
When used with Sony’s dedicated Spatial Audio Video Tool app, creators can, Sony says, “shoot video, check footage, make simple edits and export content with spatial audio. This allows users to complete the entire production workflow for spatial audio video on their smartphone.”
Sony also introduced the ECM-W5 wireless microphone for video creators, combining high-quality audio capture, stable wireless transmission and versatile recording features to support a more flexible production workflow across a wide range of shooting scenarios.
The ECM-W5 Wireless Microphone kit is available for $399.99. The ECM-AX10 Spatial Audio Microphone for Smartphones has a suggested retail price of $249.99.
