Pinnacle Studio for iPad to add missing framerates & 48 kHz! 1

Last month, I published an article covering improvements in Pinnacle Studio for iPad, which is a video editing app which was originally an Avid product. At the same time, I made some constructive criticisms to the lack of non-integer framerates and proper 48 kHz. I am now delighted to let you know that the developer has committed to adding all of those. Ahead are the details.

In my detailed article of June 10, 2014, I made constructive criticisms, because although the app already included 24.000 fps (standard but less common than 23.976), 25.000 (standard for PAL and ex PAL countries), 30.000 (non-standard since the United States moved from black-and-white to color television broadcasting), 60.000 (non-standard for the same reason), and 44.1 kHz (non-standard for video), it was missing non-integer framerates 23.976, 29.97, and 59.94 , as well as 48 kHz, the absolute standard sampling frequency for digital audio for digital video.

I am delighted to see the following response from LumaTouch, who is in charge of developing, marketing, and support for Pinnacle Studio for iPad:

Hi Allan,

We will add 23.98, 29.97 and 59.94 frame rates and keep the existing frame rates in the next update. True 30fps and 60fps are still useful in web and limited film pulldown cases.

We will also change the default to 48 kHz.

I don't know when we will release the next update, but it usually isn't too long between updates. Thank you!

Terri Morgan

I am so glad for these additions, although I hope they end of expressing the lowest framerate as 23.976 (not 23.98), for the reasons expressed in the June article.

My latest book (paperback + ebook)

My most recent book is available in two languages, and in paperback as well as an ebook. The ebook format is Kindle, but even if you don’t have a Kindle device, you can read Kindle books on many other devices using a free Kindle app. That includes iPad, Android tablets, Mac computers, and Windows computers. Although generally speaking, Kindle books are readable on smartphones like Androids and iPhones, I don’t recommend it for this particular book since it contains both color photos and color comparison charts. The ebook is also DRM-free.
