#GalsNGear at NAB 2019: women in media tech have a place at the table

The #GalsNGear initiative from The Women in Film & Video (WIFV) organization is back at NAB 2019 with a program designed to ensure women in media tech have a place at the table, and a visible one.

The 2019 edition of the NAB Show hosts a series of events organized by #GalsNGear, an initiative of Women in Film & Video (WIFV), an organization founded in 1979, dedicated to advancing the career development and achievement for professionals working in all areas of screen-based media and related disciplines. WIFV supports women in the industry by promoting equal opportunities, encouraging professional development, serving as an information network, and educating the public about women’s creative and technical achievements.

“The #GalsNGear events at NAB Show provide women in media, entertainment and technology the opportunity to connect while developing valuable professional skills,” said NAB Executive Vice President of Conventions and Business Operations Chris Brown. “We’re glad to again be partnering with Women in Film & Video to provide this valuable and empowering platform.”

Last year’s #GalsNGear event at NAB Show drew hundreds of attendees, and the livestream on “NAB Show LIVE” was widely viewed. Additionally, the #GalsNGear hashtag gained over eight million impressions in just three days. The #GalsNGear programming for 2019 NAB Show includes multiple events on April 9 – 10, and will be another opportunity to ensure women in media production gain access to the latest industry technology and high-level networking opportunities.

“Women are leading throughout our industry. Partnering with NAB Show, #GALSNGEAR puts the focus on those leaders to be sure they are visible in the booths, on the show floor, on panels and across all technical fields of media-making,” said Director/Producer and #GalsNGear Founder Amy DeLouise.

The event starts on April 9, with a networking coffee in the Central Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center, hosted by Blackmagic Design, fopllowed by panel discussion and equipment demonstrations broadcast on “NAB Show LIVE.” The broadcast will be co-hosted by Crowded TV Founder Adryenn Ashley and Amy DeLouise. The same day, during the afternoon, participants have a demonstration of the newest Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro in The Mandy Network booth (SL14317).

What’s next in post?

April 10, in the morning, there will be a panel discussion entitled “What’s New, What’s Next in Post”, focusing on the the latest advancements in post technologies and workflows, featuring panelist Luisa Winters, an internationally celebrated pilot, instructor, presenter, and musician. An accomplished videographer, editor, 3D animator and graphics designer, she has created and edited scores of broadcast video and web projects for corporate, government, and educational, commercial and private clients.

Participants in this panel will discuss the latest tools for pushing out content to multiple platforms fast—even from your tablet or phone,  and reflect about how the new AI-enabled features that are changing post workflow from ingest to edit. The panel  does not stop there, though, and looks at what’s happening on the audio side of post, including spatial sound opportunities for content creators. Industry experts are ready to take participants on a high-speed tour of real-world applications for innovations in post. They are producer, author and entrepreneur Darley Newman; Senior Mixer and Founder of Ott House Audio Cheryl Ottenritter, Five One Color Founder and Senior Colorist Aline Sinquin; and Amy DeLouise.

VR creators in action

The second panel of the day is entitled “Case Studies in VR: Creators in Action” and is a Post|Production World session, the ideal place to discuss about new strategies and tools available for virtual reality production. Participants have the chance to meet a group of content creators working at the bleeding edge of this newest medium, learn from their case studies discussing strategies, challenges, tools and workflows for nonfiction doc-style storytelling, sales applications, a block-chain based VR dating app, and content for LA’s first VR/XR entertainment venue.

There will also be time to look into a new web platform that allows VR content creators to showcase their work. Participants in this panel include Immersionn Founder Alexandra Hussenot, Two Bit Circus Chief Creative Officer Nancy Bennett, Datzi Media Producer and Instructor at Palm Beach Atlantic University Danilda Martinez, Metastage CEO Christina Heller and Amy DeLouise.
