Blackmagic Resolve 18.5 released as its now out of beta 2

Blackmagic Resolve 18.5 has been released and you can download it from Blackmagic’s support page.

It’s ok if you’re thinking to yourself, wait… hasn’t Resolve 18.5 been out for months now? Technically it has not as it has been available as a public beta and I don’t post about every beta point update to every piece of post-production software out there but 18.5 is the official full release and it is a good one. 18.5 was announced in April and PVC had coverage of this update at NAB. I’ve used the beta a bit here and there and it has been really solid.

Perhaps you’re like me and you read the tweet above and wonder about those “100 new features” and are those 100 new features in this final release from the last beta 5 or is that 100 new features from the old Resolve to 18.5. I think that means in this full version from the last full version. Speaking of those features, from looking over the bullet point list I couldn’t help notice how much attention the Cut page has gotten and how it’s at the top of the bullet list. As an editor, I hope this isn’t indicative of an emphasis on the Cut page over the Edit page but since they both got some love I’ll leave it at that.

Of note, the Resolve reference is new for July 2023 and is just over 4,100 pages long!

I appreciate BMD keeping the deep and dedicated manual alive in this day and age of videos for everything. I hope this trend continues. If you’re just looking for a what’s new then check the Latest Support Notes column on the Blackmagic support page for DaVinci Resolve 18.5 New Features Guide as that is the “what’s new” that is useful for those who are familiar with Resolve already.

Here’s that bullet point list, and there are many:
