Batteries are the unsung heroes of every production. From the largest to the smallest, we can’t work without our camera batteries. A good professional never runs out of power or media.
I found it necessary to request a review of BLUESHAPE’s B-Mount batteries because I had an urgent need for more voltage. I had the Blackmagic Design URSA Cine 12K LF on hand for testing, and I only had 12V Gold Mount batteries available. That 12V meant I was stuck filming on the URSA Cine 12K LF at lower frame rates than I desired. I wanted more. I wanted all the frame rates. So, I sent an email to BLUESHAPE requesting batteries that could provide me with all the frame rates, and they obliged quickly. You can check out that review of the Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF here.
For years, one had to decide between V-mount and Gold Mount. I tended to lean towards Gold Mount, because of its more secure mount, but I’ve used both and both are good options, but we have new horizons.
ARRI and Bebob collaborated in 2019 to address the power demands in modern digital cameras, which coincided with the introduction of the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF. The B-Mount was a battery capable of handling both 14.4V and 28.8V voltages. You see, cameras are drawing more and more power to provide shooters with the most dynamic range, the highest resolution, and more to advance camera technology. Now, we can get any mount with a higher voltage capability.
Yet, embracing B-Mount batteries is not just about a new connector, it’s about taking a leap forward in on-set power. Let’s delve into why this shift is so significant.
The BLUESHAPE B-Mount lineup isn’t just another power solution it’s a full rethink of what a professional battery should be. Built tough, smart, and efficient, these packs are made to keep up with the demands of modern production.
Built Like a Tank
BLUESHAPE completely redesigned the B-Mount from the inside out. The new modular construction feels solid in your hands, and the upgraded 21700 Li-Ion cells deliver better power and efficiency across the board.
They’re shockproof, rainproof, and IP54 certified. Even the way they’re built makes sense; the battery housing is a full unit first, and the mount attaches afterward, which means no exposed cells or fragile internals.
LEDs You Can Actually See (and Control)
The dual 5x RGB LED arrays are a small detail that make a big difference. They sit on the corners of the housing, giving you 270° visibility — even when the battery’s upside down on a gimbal or rig.
The LEDs turn on with a simple touch, and you can adjust their brightness depending on your environment. Working in a dark studio or Steadicam setup? Just dim them down or keep them “always on” for quick battery checks without any guesswork.
Power Everywhere You Need It
You get two 16V D-Taps for up to 80W combined output, plus a USB-C PD port (5V–20V, up to 65W) — perfect for powering monitors, wireless gear, or even charging a laptop on location.
And if you plug in via USB-C, you unlock the SMARTMon feature, a built-in interface that lets you monitor battery health, control settings, and even contact BLUESHAPE support directly through the app. (You can grab the app from SMARTMon – BLUESHAPE.)
Wireless Monitoring, Instantly
Every B-Mount also comes with GRANITE SMART wireless connectivity, so you can check battery levels right from your phone or table; no cables, no pairing hassles. It just connects out of the box through the BLUESHAPE App. (App link available at BB290 – BLUESHAPE.)
Stay Safe Up High
For overhead or rigged setups, BLUESHAPE’s optional BSAFE bracket lets you lock the battery into a safety cable system — peace of mind when you’re working on cranes, trusses, or elevated rigs.
In short: these B-Mounts are built to handle real-world filmmaking — powerful, rugged, and smart enough to make your power management feel effortless. More importantly, they work and helped me capture 12K at the highest frame rates.
