Schneider-Kreuznach shows new Radiant Softs at Cine Gear Expo

Recently introduced by Schneider-Kreuznac, the RHOdium Full Spectrum Neutral Density family of filters, will be on display at Cine Gear Expo 2017. Now the company introduces the Radiant Soft line.

The Schneider RHOdium Full Spectrum Neutral Density (FSND) filters are a high-end ND filter line manufactured to finer flatness/parallelism specifications than ever before. They are not the only product from the company, which is known for products as the hide-the-trick Classic Soft filters. Now the company introduces another essential addition to its world-class diffusion line, the new Radiant Softs. These superior highlight controllers’ are capable of toning down skin imperfections, while still controlling contrast and blooming around in-frame lights.

Due to a proprietary new engineering technique, these water white glass filters offer an expanded palette of in-camera effects to the shooter. Available in strengths of ¼, ½, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, Radiant Softs’ prevent the need to reset the overall contrast grade of the scene after the desired diffusion is applied. This versatile family can do the job of improving skin tones at a low strength, and then add a highlight bloom effect when desired, at higher strengths.

According to the Schneider MPTV Filter engineers,“Radiant Soft filters are the result of an intense study of how the internal component of the filter will affect the resulting image. We have formulated a very special laminate which utilizes geometric two-dimensional (planar) particles which are carefully classified to yield the most flattering result. The Radiant Soft filters have the effect of toning down skin imperfections while having a limited effect on contrast or highlights. Planar particle selection is the key to avoiding the undesired result of a diffusion filter that assaults contrast and over-blooms highlights.”

After testing the filters, cinematographer Ted Hayash, explains, “The goals of making people look good on camera don’t often go hand in hand with blooming highlights. So, the new Schneider Radiant Soft approach can work better in that it is effective on skin tones without adding an overall effect to the image.”

Schneider-Kreuznach’s Radiant Soft Filters are made in traditional sizes including 4×4, 4×5.65, and 6.6×6.6, in strengths of ¼, ½, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
