RICOH GR IVx camera in development features new lens

The RICOH GR IVx camera now being developed is equipped with a newly developed lens that allows users to enjoy shooting with a 40mm-equivalent standard angle of view. 

Ricoh continues to expand the GR lineage keeping with its own path, at odds with trends and fads, since its first model, in 1996, to the GR IV, announced August 2025, the variation RICOH GR IV HDF, from December 2025, with an HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) designed to deliver mellow, diffused expression with a single-action control, followed by the  RICOH GR IV Monochrome, a dedicated black-and-white version of the compact GR IV camera… that is more affordable than the monochrome series from Leica. Now it’s time for a new perspective… 

In fact, the model now announced as being in development is another variation of the RICOH GR IV, which is built around a 18.3 mm F2.8 GR lens (28 mm-equivalent) wide-angle lens that street photographers appreciate, paired with an APS‑C CMOS sensor of approximately. 25.74 megapixels. 

The RICOH GR IVx currently in development keeps the same essential specifications but is equipped with a newly developed GR lens to further expand the expressive capabilities of the RICOH GR IV, which comprehensively advances the fundamental concept behind the GR Series–the essential values of a camera, including high image quality, quick response, and portability.

The new lens is a 26.1mm F2.8-F16 (approximately 40mm in 35mm equivalent focal length) offering an angle of view close to the effective field of human vision. This distinct perspective, different from the 28mm-equivalent wide-angle lens of the RICOH GR IV, “opens up new possibilities for snapshot photography” according to RICOH. The company also added that there are plans “to introduce other new functions, so please look forward to the official announcement.” 

RICOH also announced that “with the availability of certain parts ending, production of the current RICOH GR IIIx, IIIx HDF, and IIIx Urban Edition models is expected to conclude with the products shipped in October 2026” noting that “this schedule is for Japan. Ending dates may differ for overseas regions” and ending with a note to users of those models: “We appreciate your understanding on this matter.” 

The RICOH GR IVx now in development is planned to launch Winter 2026 or later, according to the company.
