Other World Computing (OWC) continues to iterate upon their long product line of connectivity solutions to meet the requirements of modern video professionals and on-the-ground content creators. At IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, OWC has showcased the latest model of their Thunderbolt 5 Dock, now featuring adapter-free native dual HDMI connectivity.

Combining high-resolution display support made possible through HDMI, fast storage connectivity, media-card offload, and high-power charging through a single Thunderbolt 5 connection, the Dock is designed to turn any capable laptop into a fully connected production workstation.

ProVideo Coalition got to have an up-close look at Thunderbolt 5 from the show floor, with OWC giving us a rundown of its features.

 

During our rundown of the dock’s capabilities, the standout feature was the inclusion of two built-in HDMI 2.1 ports. This design allows compatible monitors to connect directly to the hub, entirely eliminating the need to hunt down extra video adapters. On supported Thunderbolt 5 systems, the hardware can drive dual displays at up to 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 240Hz. Depending on the host system, editors can even add a third display using the additional Thunderbolt or USB-C connections.

This multi-display flexibility is a massive asset in post-production scenarios where screen real estate is king. You can easily dedicate one display to your timeline and bins while using a second screen exclusively for a full-size viewer, color scopes, or other critical tools. Users can do all of that without burning through precious Thunderbolt ports just to accommodate display adapters. It’s a single-cable solution that cuts the clutter and makes a tangible difference in a busy edit suite.

Beyond expanding your digital workspace, the Dock keeps the entire ingestion process centralized. The unit features UHS-II SD and microSD card slots, allowing filmmakers to offload footage straight from the camera without digging for a separate reader. For heavy lifting, a downstream Thunderbolt 5 port provides high-speed connectivity for external SSDs and RAID arrays, while a 2.5Gb Ethernet port guarantees fast, stable wired connections to network-attached storage and wider production infrastructure.

With leaps in system-on-a-chip computing like Apple Silicon, many creators are managing every stage of production directly from laptops capable of chewing through heavy 4K renders. However, that portable processing power still demands significant energy. OWC tackles this by engineering the dock to deliver up to 140W to the host laptop. This ensures high-performance Mac and Windows machines stay fully charged while simultaneously driving displays, networking hardware, and demanding storage arrays, while a front-facing USB-C port provides an additional 30W to keep smaller peripherals topped up during long sessions.
