White mist vs black mist diffusion

Diffusion filters have become standard tools for softening the clinical sharpness of modern digital sensors. The two most common types, white mist and black mist, achieve this differently.

Black mist filters reduce overall contrast across the tonal range, creating a hazier, more atmospheric look often favored for moody, stylized work.

White mist filters take a more selective approach.
