Outsight debuts Micro LED light at NAB 2017

Outsight launched at NAB 2016 its Creamsource+ range  featuring a fourth-generation LED light engine. This year the company is back in Las Vegas with the whole range and a surprise: the Micro LED light.

The Creamsource+ range from Outsight, the pioneering advanced lighting technology company, from Australia, became rapidly accepted by the industry. Offering greater than 90 CRI/TLCI, the Creamsource+ is available in two sizes: the Doppio+ and the Mini+. The large flat panel array of the Doppio+ creates a flexible fixture that lets the user control how the light is shaped and moulded. The Creamsource Mini + comes with all the same features as the Creamsource Doppio+ in a compact 1×1 form factor, making it ideal for location or outside broadcast work.

Now Outsight show a light that is even smaller, the Micro, which is less than half the size of the Creamsource Mini+, with dimensions (without yoke) of 220 x 205 x 100mm (W x H x D), and weighs in at approximately 2.5kg.

“The Micro is a great addition to the Creamsource range, with all the advanced LED technology of the larger units in a small package,” said Tama Berkeljon, Managing Director, Outsight. “It’s powerful but it can squeeze into small spaces, it is incredibly quick to rig and derig, and it takes up very little storage or stowage. Notably, the Micro is our most cost-effective fixture to date, and we are confident that due to the fixture’s punch, form factor and aggressive pricing, it will quickly become an invaluable part of any lighting set-up.”

The Micro features a rugged and waterproof design, with an IP65 rating which means it can be used in all weather. Light output is the same excellent quality as the rest of the Creamsource range, with color temperature adjustable from 2700 to 6500K and a CRI/TLCI of greater than 90. Drawing only 80W, it rivals the light output and punch typical of some 200W HMI Luminaires. Unlike most bi-color fixtures, the Micro maintains constant power output across the whole CCT range, so users always get the unit’s full potential, and there is no reason to have to choose between a bi-color or daylight system. Another key innovation of the Micro is its wide 10-32V operating voltage, allowing users to power the fixture from a single 90WH battery, or directly from a car.

There are three main different rigging options: Quick release Yoke, Kino Flo Style Twist-on Mount, or single 3/8th Thread. Numerous accessories are available, including a choice of V-Lock or Gold Mount style quick release battery plates for easy portability, a Snap-Bag light-bank from DOP Choice, Outsight’s high-efficiency holographic lens system, and a hardwearing soft travel case.

The Micro is priced at USD $995 for the basic kit, which includes all the user needs to get going including the Creamsource Micro Bender head, power supply, and 3/8” Baby mounting socket. Other kits are available. The Micro is the fourth product in the growing Creamsource range and will join its siblings – Creamsource Doppio+, Creamsource Mini+ and Creamsource Sky – on the NAB booth.

Outsight LED luminaires have been used recently on feature films including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Dr. Strange, and Thor: Ragnarok, and TV dramas including Stranger Things and Zapped.
