The milkman: an unsung hero of the film set 1

Back in the days of civil society the milkman would swing by and leave the milk at your doorstep. Years later the crate that carried the milk has become an indispensable tool on movie sets the world over.

So what’s the big deal about a plastic box? Here are the highlights:

  1. They’re stackable without sliding around in the back of a truck.
  2. By adding sheet metal liners to the inside they can carry just about anything without having things slip out the side.
  3. They’re sturdy enough to double as a self esteem booster for short actors, or a step ladder for quick lighting adjustments.
  4. When you need something low profile, you can grab a half milk crate.

There’s not much more to say. It’s a box. To put stuff in. The biggest mystery
is usually where to buy them. That’s where Filmtools comes in.
