CINEMA 4D Session Highlights

Dave Glanz
Master Class: Integrating 3D Dynamics into a Motion Graphics Workflow
Date: June 9th 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Location: Showcase Theatre

Creating high level motion graphics for broadcast in today’s world of tighter budgets and shorter deadlines means artists must take advantage of every time saving tool at their disposal. Glanz will examine the use of CINEMA 4D’s built-in MoGraph module with its rigid body dynamics engine, a crucial tool in creating animations on three real-world projects, and how these can be applied to improve production workflows.

With motion design credits on some of television’s highest rated shows, Glanz is one of the “most viewed” broadcast designers in the industry. A PromaxBDA award-winning motion graphics designer with over 10 years of experience, his studio Dave Glanz Productions services a diverse range of clients including Discovery Channel, Nat Geo, History, PBS, Arm & Hammer, and the American Film Institute on projects like Mythbusters, Sharkweek, Storm Chasers, Deadliest Catch and Modern Marvels.

“I was always nervous about adding a 3D tool until I discovered CINEMA 4D a few years ago,” Glanz says. “It's now an essential tool in my day-to-day broadcast motion graphics workflow and I’m pumped to help attendees better understand how effectively applying the MoGraph dynamics software can mean the difference between profit and loss on a project.”

Joe Herman
Special Morning Session: Effective Visual Effects on a Budget with MAXON’s CINEMA 4D
Date: June 10th 9:00 a.m. – 9:50 a.m.
Location: Showcase Theatre

Herman will demonstrate techniques to help attendees create visual effects easily and cost effectively using CINEMA 4D. During the course of the presentation, he will track a live action city street to build an alien invasion sequence to show how to import 3D tracking data from After Effects into CINEMA 4D, use dynamics, shatter objects with plug-ins, emit particles, and highlight the essential Xpresso scripting system. In addition, the MoGraph cloner object as well as the character object (an easy way to create rigs for character animation) will also be highlighted. Herman will also discuss Cineware, the exciting new pipeline between CINEMA 4D and After Effects recently unveiled at NAB.

Herman is the New York regional representative for MAXON’s CINEMA 4D. A long-time New York-based post production professional and founder of Legend Multimedia, Herman provides digital animation, motion graphics, visual effects, compositing and design for production companies, advertising agencies, television networks, film production companies, and the internet on a wide variety of productions. Joe has also taught at The School of Visual Arts and often blogs about the industry.

“I have witnessed the incredible rise in popularity of CINEMA 4D in New York and around the country, mainly due to its intuitive and straightforward approach as well as its powerful capabilities,” Herman says. “While many turn to CINEMA 4D daily for motion graphics work, many others also appreciate its sophisticated tools for visual effects and character animation. This talk is for those who are looking to create visual effects that incorporate live action and 3D imagery for independent films, television or commercials, easily and cost effectively without a tremendously complicated pipeline.”
