Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra gets new 200MP sensor… and keeps old 10MP!

As expected, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra gets a 200MP sensor and Advanced Professional Video as the S26 Ultra, making it a foldable solution for professionals who shoot video with a smartphone. 

While the new Galaxy Z series opens a new chapter in foldables, there is nothing absolutely new in terms of the cameras used in any of the models, of which there are three, Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8. We will look at the two top models, which are the most interesting for users who also used their smartphone as camera. Interestingly, though, only the Flip8 model seems to have the new Super Steady with  Horizontal Lock available on the Galaxy S26 series. 

 

The Galaxy Z Fold8 features dual 50 MP cameras which deliver, according to Samsung, “consistent high-resolution detail across wide and ultra-wide perspectives, helping preserve image quality across different scenes and shooting conditions.” The main camera features a 1/1.57″ sensor paired with a f/1.8, 23mm lens with dual pixel PDAF and OIS and the option to do 2x zoom, while the ultra-wide features a 1/2.5″ sensor paired with a f/1.9 16mm lens with dual pixel PDAF. The remaining cameras are for selfies, both 10MP, enough for what they are designed for. 

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is different, clearly designed as a foldable model for maximum productivity, with its expansive 8-inch main display that opens up a productive workspace for multitasking, while, Samsung claims, “its advanced camera system and long-lasting battery support creation throughout the day.” 

 The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a  200 MP main camera system that captures rich, detailed photos with greater clarity, and is now enhanced with High Dynamic Range (HDR) capability in 200 MP mode for more true-to-life images. It also includes a new 50 MP ultra-wide camera that brings, Samsung adds, “greater detail and clarity to wider scenes and macro shots, giving users more flexibility when capturing landscapes, interiors, group shots, and close-up details.” 

It’s unfortunate, though, that Samsung continues to use a 3x telephoto camera with a 10MP sensor, but that’s something that we’ve seen in Ultra models for a while now, as it was first seen on the S21 Ultra… in 2021. While it was good then, it’s probably about time to change it for something else… and better. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra also includes two 10MP selfie cameras. 

This model also includes, improved Nightography that, according to Samsung, ”helps photos and videos look brighter and clearer in low light, so users can capture standout moments even in challenging lighting conditions” while advanced creators get ”8K video recording through the new APV codec, that  gives users greater flexibility and quality for editing and production workflows, while Cine LUT adds cinematic color and tone control directly from a mobile device.” 

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Fold8, are available for pre-order at major carriers and retailers, with general availability starting August 7, 2026. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra starts at $2,099.99 and Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at $1,899.99. Both are available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.
