Final Pixel: a new Virtual Production Master Class in New YorkAccording to Final Pixel Academy, the extensive Virtual Production training combines asynchronous and on-set, hands on experience for participants with award-winning VP industry experts.

Final Pixel announced that its virtual production education division – Final Pixel Academy – is partnering with New York University Tandon School of Engineering to deliver a comprehensive Virtual Production Master Class featuring a deep-dive into the Motion Capture (MoCap) and ICVFX skill and techniques needed to excel in virtual production.

The Master Class training will introduce participants to motion-capture topics and virtual production onboarding, including both theory and application, and will culminate in the integration of both pipelines for micro-simulated/recorded virtual production shoot with motion capture.

According to Final Pixel, this training is also designed to introduce professionals with some level of industry experience to the concepts, principles, and applications of motion capture as it is deployed in virtual production environments for animation, films, advertising, and games. This blended asynchronous and on-set training begins on October 30, 2023, and will consist of the following:

The Master Class training is led by Virtual Production Supervisor, Ian Fursa ( Greatest Beer Run Ever, Twenty One Pilots Shy Away, Once Upon a Disney Wish, VP-Toolkit) and award-winning creator and NYU Faculty Todd Bryant (SnapChat Partner Summit 2021 & 2020 Childish Gambino Phar0s II, Neurospeculative Afrofeminism, Giant).

With a commitment to delivering the best in training, industry knowledge and academic legacy, Final Pixel and NYU Tandon @ The Yard combine their first-hand experience and years of professional expertise immerse participants in a high-value training experience with exposure to the technologies and techniques they will need to begin a successful career in virtual production.

NYU Tandon @ The Yard is a 14,000 square foot production and research facility, consisting of two production studios as well as other systems for working with emerging media technology. Its motion capture stage is the second largest in New York City: 40’x35′ (30′ tall) equipped with a 24-camera Optitrak Prime 13 motion capture system along with facial and hand tracking equipment. The stage has a high-definition projection system as well as a large virtual production “kit” consisting of a 30-foot LED wall, camera equipment, and other equipment developed in partnership with Final Pixel. The stage has a control booth, green room, and other amenities to support professional capture.

This Masterclass will provide you with the practical skills and technical knowledge to use a range of motion-capture systems successfully on productions and understand the creative possibilities afforded by the technology, all with the advantage of hands-on experience on one of the industry’s most advanced virtual production stages.

Final Pixel Academy and NYU Tandon School of Engineering  shared a list of prerequisites and course requirements necessary to participate in the Master Class:

Prerequisites:

Professionals working as crew in VFX departments and camera film crew

At least 1-year of professional experience.

Course requirements:

4-hours Online On-Demand/Asynchronous Video (available from Friday, November 3rd)

2-hour Q&A/Kickoff Session – Monday, November 6th at 5pm EST (this session will also be recorded)

2-days on-set (New York, @ NYU Tandon @ The Yard, – Saturday & Sunday November 11th & 12th
