Cine Gear Expo 2016: A Closer Look at the SkyPanel from ARRI

20160604_121709

Production professionals at every level are used to dealing with gels and manually adjusting their setup to get the right feel and tone. It can be a cumbersome and time-consuming process, which often forces creatives to make compromises. The Skypanel from ARRI can help ensure the desired look and feel that can be achieved in a far easier and quicker manner.

The Skypanel is available in two sizes as the S60 and S30. The S30 features a light aperture of 355 x 300 mm with a aluminum yoke, high strength tilt lock and pole operation option. The S60’s light aperature is 645×300 mm with a steel yoke, and the same tilt lock and pole option. Both models have 0-100% continuous dimming capabilities and an estimated LED lifetime of over 50,000 hours.

An incredibly versatile product, the models are fully color tunable and feature a gel mode that has 277 gels from two distinct libraries. Full plus and minus green correction is something the user has complete control over. The temperature ranges from 2800-10,000 K, and allows users to saturate as much or as little as needed.

At Cine Gear, attendees were able to not only see how the light could be adjusted on the unit itself, but the same controls were utilized on a tablet that controlled the light of the entire booth. With a quick swipe, attendees were able to change the lighting of the entire area to get a sense of what kind of power and control the product offers.

The benefits that cinematographers and DP’s can get from something like this should be obvious, but the SkyPanel can ease production logistics and budgets as well, since this one product can potentially eliminate the need for various resources. Built to last, the SkyPanel is a product that productions both small and large should take a close look at.
