The CINE Battery: A way to cut the cord even on long shoots

If you’ve been enduring the short and unpredictable life of DSLR batteries (let’s face it, the form factor of those little plastic blocks was never designed for the constant power draw of motion picture work) you’ll find the move to pro batteries to be nothing short of magical. And the undisputed king of camera batteries is Anton Bauer. So what’s the big deal with an Anton Bauer brick–is it just that the size? Well, yes of course, but you’ll be surprised at just how much cool tech is packed into the latest iteration of the industry standard in mobile power.

Late last year Anton Bauer announced a new series of batteries called the CINE battery. These provide a sustained output of 12 Amps – just what’s needed to power both your camera and the accessories you load it down with. To that end, the CINE series includes a Powertap for providing juice to 14V accessories like monitors and lights, even while it’s plugged in and powering your camera.

The battery includes numerous hi-tech safety features; safety is important, but boring so we’ll leave you to research that on your own. However it’s worth mentioning the two year warranty, which certainly makes it a
reliable long term investment. (Two years–that’s like twenty digital tech years).

But here’s one of the really cool features: when your battery’s plugged in to your gear and running, the LCD displays a count-down of battery time remaining under the current load. So if your shoot is 3 hours long and your battery says 5 hours left, you’re good to go. No more guessing how far a “half battery” icon is going to take you.

Oh, and possibly just as important: Anton Bauer’s V-mount is an industry standard, so even if you change cameras tomorrow, you won’t need to change batteries.
