They may not be the professional camcorders you expected Canon to deliver, but the new VIXIA HF W11 and HF W1 are waterproof, shockproof and dustproof, ideal features when capturing action.
The VIXIA HF W11 and HF W10 announced by Canon at CES 2019 are presented as the new ruggedly designed additions to the VIXIA family of digital camcorders, and said to be ideal camcorders for capturing action-packed family moments. They probably are and, due to the fact that they are limited to Full HD, in a world where everybody seems to want/need/wish for 4K and beyond, you can forget these two models right now. But wait, maybe if you look at the pair as something else, you’ll discover there is some use for these VIXIA, beyond the capture of action-packed family moments.
Built to capture action everywhere
The word “action” is the key here: look at the VIXIA HF 11 and HF W10 as “action cameras” or “action camcorders”, if you prefer. Their small size, 2.4 x 2.3 x 5.0 in. / 60 x 59.5 x 128mm (excluding grip belt), and weight – 10.72 oz. / 304g (camera only) for the HF11 and 10.62 oz. / 301g (camera only) for the HF10 – make them ideal to carry everywhere and use to capture your most action-packed moments.
Both models are waterproof (up to 16.4 ft. / 5m), shockproof and dustproof and are capable of functioning in temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit /-10 degrees Celsius. In terms of video capture, both camcorders feature 1920 x 1080 video AVCHD Full HD video recording, and are equipped with a 40x optical and 60x digital zoom lens allowing users to record action both near and far.
Internal storage and touch-panel LCD
The VIXIA HF W11 camcorder offers an attached LED light and 32GB of internal storage for recording up to 13.5 hours of high-definition video, while the VIXIA HF W10 camcorder offers 8GB of internal storage for recording up to three hours of video. Both models allow for five hours of continuous recording time. Users can also record to a removable SD memory card, allowing for additional recording. In addition, both camcorders feature a 3.0-inch touch-panel LCD screen enabling users to view a recording or change settings all at the touch of a finger.
The VIXIA HF W11 and VIXIA HF W10 camcorders are both scheduled to be available in April 2019 for an estimated retail price of $449.99 and $399.99 respectively.
