Bill Warner, Walter Murch multi-part stories, links galore

Bill Warner, Walter Murch multi-part stories, links galore 1

There’s a couple of really good multi-part interviews that have been airing incrementally around the Internet that I wanted to point to. If you haven’t been following them then you’re in for a real treat as you catch up. Hollywood Reinvented is currently in part 5 of an interview with Bill Warner, the man who created Avid. Flickering Myth is taking an extended look at the career of Walter Murch.

Bill Warner interview

The Hollywood Reinvented interview is a good one for those who interested this technology we call non-linear editing. Bill Warner isn’t a name you might recognize but with him there probably wouldn’t be the Avid that we know today. This is a great interview for those who want to know their editing history.

Bill Warner interview part 3

Bill Warner interview part 4

Bill Warner interview part 5. The part 5 of the interview looks particularly interesting as the title is When Avid Met Apple.

Walter Murch Profile

The other ongoing series that might be of interest to editors is the exhaustive profile of the career of Walter Murch that is going on over at the Flickering Myth blog. Murch needs to introduction to those of us in the editing discipline but if he does then you should just click on over and get to reading:

Walter Murch profile part 1

Walter Murch profile part 2

Walter Murch profile part 3

Walter Murch profile part 4

Keep an eye toward both of these series as there’s probably another installment or two for both.

Other stuff from around the web

While we’re linking to some good content around the interwebs here’s a few other links worth checking out:

The Tao of Color website has a newsletter that you can sign up for which assembles a number of good links from around the web.

You’ve probably heard of Terence Curren and Philip Hodgetts new podcast The Terence and Philip Show. If not then check it out and subscribe as it’s a weekly, short and sweet, discussion of things that will be of interest to post-production pros.

Editor Robert Wilson has a blog which currently has a two-part post about the Editor’s Guild that might be worth a read. Part 1 is Getting In and Is It Worth It and Part 2 is The Double-Edged Sword. That’s one of those topics where there’s probably a lot of differing opinions.

And finally I’ll link to my own monthly Linkage to goes up over at the original Editblog. The July 2010 edition just went up. It just a collection of random links that I’ve collected via Google, email and Twitter the might be of interest to those in filmmaking in general but post-prodcution more specifically. It been going on for a while now of if you want a ton of content then check out the Linkage archives. Happy reading!
