How good is the 4.6K URSA Mini in lowlight? Well one beta tester shares his candle light scene for discerning eyes to see.

Yes, it wasn’t delivered in “July.” Yes, Blackmagic is making us all extremely impatient. Yes, it’ll likely be well worth the wait – to paraphrase Shane Hurlbut. Right now, Blackmagic has only sent the 4.6K URSA Mini to a few beta testers. Until recently, those beta testers couldn’t release much, if any, footage to the public. Now we’re seeing teases of what we can expect from what’ll likely be Blackmagic’s flagship camera. If you’re anything like me you find this time waiting for this camera to be more than a little frustrating.

Thankfully Daniel Peters, a DP/Director/Editor out of the UK, has shared quite a few examples of this work with the 4.6K Mini. Above you can see his lowlight example on the 4.6K URSA Mini shooting in candlelight. Shot at 800ISO his footage shows how clean the image out of the 4.6K URSA Mini looks at its base ISO. In other videos he also wrote about how the image looked at a higher ISO “lowlight tests so far are also coming out very clean at 1600ISO.”

If you’re between the 4K URSA Mini and the 4.6K URSA Mini Daniel Peters’ thoughts are simple and straight to the point,”…It may be hard for people to make a choice between the 4K mini and the 4.6K mini, especially when footage online with both cameras are shot well, But having used both cameras, the range from the 4.6K is a BIG step up.”

How about those problems plaguing Blackmagic’s older cameras? Black sun spots? Fixed noise pattern? IR pollution? If you dive into the comments on Daniel Peter’s 4.6K Mini videos you can see he has answered many of these questions. For example he was asked about black sun spots? He was asked by Bogdan Barbu “Hey Daniel, did you get to test the sensor for “darkspots” when shooting very bright objects (sun or any other light sources in shot) did the guys at BMD take care of the issue?” DP responded “Hi Bogdan, no blackspots in the sensor what so ever :)”
