Typhoon G multicopter: made for GoPro 1

The newest member of the Typhoon family is designed to provide smooth and stable aerial footage for the GoPro camera in a package that delivers Yuneec’s standard of being ready, easy and safe for consumers everywhere.

“We believe the Typhoon G will be the aerial and ground imaging solution of choice for GoPro enthusiasts because it provides the most stable imaging available,” said Yu Tian, CEO of Yuneec USA.

The Typhoon 500 G – if the complete denomination is used – has several smart features that ensure safety and ease of use, which consumers have come to expect from the Typhoon series. Features such as Geo-Fencing, Speed Control, Dynamic Return to Home, Follow Me and Watch Me are built into the Typhoon G system, specifications more and more important each day, as new regulations being implemented define what multicopters can and cannot do.

The smart features present in the Typhoon G are responsible for making each flight both safe and easy. When Follow Me is enabled, the aircraft is leashed to the pilot, who is controlling the ST10+ location. With this feature, flying and capturing video following the pilot is easy, flexible and intuitive. With the Watch Me function activated, the GoPro stays pointed at the pilot, holding the ST10+ in the frame, no matter which way the drone is manoeuvred. Finally, with Dynamic Return Home, the Typhoon will fly back towards the location of the pilot holding the ST10+, and will automatically land within 13 to 26 feet (4 to 8 meters) of the pilot.

In terms of Geo-Fencing, the multicopter includes the FAA compliant No Fly Zone feature, to prevent flight near commercial airports. The No Fly Zone feature also prevents flight above 400 feet from the ground, to comply with the Legal Flying Height, and the built-in GPS establishes a 26-foot (8-meter) diameter Safe Smart Circle around the pilot, and also creates a geo-fence that keeps the aircraft from traveling farther than 300 feet (91 meters) from the pilot’s position.

The multicopter comes with a ST10+ ground station, a handheld SteadyGrip for stable ground footage, one battery and a smart charger for the suggested retail price of $999.99. The new GB203 3-axis self-stabilizing gimbal is designed especially for the GoPro Hero3 and above. It can be mounted on the Typhoon multicopter and on the SteadyGrip ground handle—a device that ensures ground shots are as smooth as those taken from the air.

While flying the Typhoon G, real-time image transmission is achieved with the included MK58 digital video downlink module and can be viewed on the ST10+ ground station, similar to the one used on the Typhoon Q500 4K. The SteadyGrip uses up to a 6.4-inch mobile device as a display, and features camera pitch control for precise camera angle control on-the-go. The Typhoon G Imaging Solution allows you to get the most out of your GoPro camera, by providing you with a tool to make smooth and stable aerial footage, while delivering direct digital video on the ST10+ Ground Station screen.
