Ultrawide monitors offering an increasingly immersive experience and models for professionals aiming for accurate colour fidelity will be present at CES 2016, in Las Vegas, at a time when Philips talks about staying healthy in front of your screen.

LG new monitors at CES 2016 will satisfy both the needs of gamers and professionals. The company believes that the computer plays an indispensable role in professional and leisure lives, so its new lineup will allow consumers more freedom to customize their work and play space to better fit their growing needs. At CES 2016 LG will showcase its newest 21:9 UltraWide monitors and 4K gaming monitors, all designed for maximum productivity and entertainment for today’s demanding power users.

The 21:9 UltraWide 34UM88 monitor from LG is presented as the perfect workstation for digital professionals such as photographers and graphic designers who depend on precise image reproduction. The wider field of view of this monitor enhances productivity by creating a bigger workspace in which to view photos side-by-side and work on multiple applications at the same time. And the monitor’s Thunderbolt 2 compatibility is indispensable for artists who work with large image and video files.

Dream setup from LG

Also debuting at CES is the LG Ultra HD 4K Monitor (model 27UD88), a 27-inch monitor designed for creative professionals featuring the latest USB-C port technology. Representing the next generation of computer connectivity, the monitor allows users to charge a laptop as fast as with a dedicated power cord and simultaneously transfer data at USB 3.0 speeds. The single cable gives users the ability to connect their laptops to an external monitor while also using the monitor as a power source, eliminating the need for more cables. The 27UD88 also offers colour presets including the popular Rec. 709 and SMPTE-C broadcasting standards, giving users a fast and easy way to adjust the picture depending on the content displayed on the screen.

For CES 2016 LG will also have a number of dream setups built around LG’s monitor lineup. One setup for gamers and digital professionals will be based around the above mentioned wide 34-inch, 21:9 Curved UltraWide Monitor (model 34UC98) featuring Thunderbolt 2. The 3440 x 1440 QHD monitor’s large screen size, picture quality-enhancing IPS technology and streamlined features are designed to meet the needs of a wide range of users from avid gamers to digital media professionals, delivering a well-rounded multimedia experience for content creators and viewers alike.

Also available in 23.8”, 23” and 21.5”, the I2781FH will be launched in March 2016.

While the overall monitor market is still facing some challenges, the trend towards larger screen sizes remains unbroken, and CES 2016 will serve as stage for that evolution. According to the latest figures from the analyst Context, displays with 23″ and above grew by more than 12 percent in the third quarter 2015 compared to the same quarter last year. Collectively, AOC and Philips monitors outperformed the market in the segment, in Europe, with a growth rate of more than 16 percent on an annual basis.

“With our two brands, AOC and Philips, we continuously focus on innovation and our customer’s needs. We are a display specialist, set trends and are always at the forefront when new categories and solutions give a push to the market. With our 40″ 4K display, for example, we demonstrated or innovative DNA and also other large screen size monitors, displays with QHD and 4K resolution, ergonomic and user friendly solutions are some examples of our innovation-driven approach. The result is a market share which makes us proud and also underlines that we have chosen the right strategy”, says Thomas Schade, Vice President Europe for AOC and MMD.

Being healthy in front of your screen

When we talk about staying healthy, it’s easy to forget our eyes. Users spend more time than ever interacting with digital devices such as tablets, phones and desktop displays, and the hours of screen time make eyes work extra hard. A flickering screen will impair concentration and even cause headaches. More seriously, continuous exposure to certain wavelengths of blue light of display devices is shown to increase the risk of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD).

That’s the reason why MMD, the company and brand license partner for Philips Monitors, decided to use this Christmas season to suggest a healthy New Year’s Resolution: make the right choice when it comes to monitors. Philips invite people to look at their innovative displays that keep eyes fresh, workplaces neat and tidy and working hours more productive.

Philips Flicker-Free technology, which now features in all the latest displays from Philips monitors, regulates the screen to create an ultra-stable picture that keeps eyes fresh even after hours of viewing. And the new Philips SoftBlue technology shifts the blue-light wavelengths to safer ranges. Displays that use this special LED technology reduce light at harmful wavelengths by over 90% – whilst maintaining full colour fidelity and brightness. Users can thus protect their eyes without making their job more difficult because of distorted colours.

Studies have shown that just as ultra-violet rays can cause eye damage, blue light rays from LED displays can cause eye damage and affect vision over time. SoftBlue LED technology uses a smart technology to reduce the harmful blue light waves without affecting the colour or image of the display. SoftBlue LED technology is certified by international testing organizations SGS Labs and TUV Rheinland to reduce blue light and protect your eyes.

Get organized with a larger screen

If screen content is cluttered and disorganized, the solution might be to move up to the next league in terms of screen resolution. The newest displays offer superfine resolutions with 4K UHD clarity. At 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, Ultra High Definition (4K) resolution packs four times as many pixels per inch of screen as Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) and delivers four times the clarity, enabling users to maintain a tidy, well-structured work screen with multiple application windows or “zones” on their display.

This year, Philips Monitors even introduced bigger screen sizes, including 32- and even 40-inch! The viewing experience is simply stunning. Users can get these super-sharp visuals without choosing a screen that would take up most of their desktop space. This year’s Philips displays also respond to the growing demand for super-fine resolutions at sizes as modest as 23.8 inches.

Of course, a change of display on the desk will not ensure that every New Year’s Resolution is kept. Most of it is still up to the individual. But one thing is for certain: with workday tools that genuinely help people focus better, keep their desk organized and improve their wellbeing, there is more time and energy left to do other things that matter. Or simply to enjoy life more, suggests Philips.
