Createasphere, founders of the annual DAMMYs – the first awards specifically recognizing excellence in innovative digital and media asset management technology, methodologies and services – announces that Steve Cronan, CEO and Founder of 5th Kind, has been awarded the 2012 DAMMY of the Year. 5th Kind is a Los Angeles-based company that provides digital asset management software to view, track and secure digital files and a platform to distribute and communicate. The award will be presented at a gala luncheon on September 28th during Createasphere’s Digital Asset Management Conference and Exhibition.

The goal of the DAMMY Awards is to raise awareness of the evolving and crucial role of digital asset management (DAM); to promote creative and technical excellence in the field; and to recognize notable achievements in DAM. It has grown to be an important and meaningful event in the digital asset management community, and the 2012 Awards mark the third edition of the popular show.

The DAMMY of the Year honors an outstanding individual or organization that has positively impacted the success and growth of the DAM industry and community. Qualities that include forward-thinking leadership, innovation and a global perspective underpin the decision about who receives the accolade. Cronan was chosen to receive the DAMMY of the Year by a panel of blue ribbon judges consisting of digital and media asset management experts who are professionals in the space.

“I am honored to receive this award, and to be among the individuals and companies that were nominated,” says Cronan. “The DAMMY means a lot to 5th Kind, and we’ve worked really hard to not only create great products and services, but be actively involved within the film community to educate and evolve the industry. We feel privileged to be recognized by a jury of our peers and look forward to continuing our work with industry experts to push the advancement of asset management and workflow innovation.”

5th Kind has managed the digital asset workflows on over 35 Hollywood blockbuster films including The Avengers, Men in Black 3, Man of Steel, Ender’s Game, and notably, Marvel has standardized their entire studio on the platform.

Mary Yurkovic, manager of Createasphere’s DAM Conference, noted, “Steve is so worthy of this honor. 5th Kind is working on global productions and infrastructure projects that are impacting the way that entertainment and enterprise approach DAM. The DAMMY of the Year gives special recognition to the innovative thinking and dedication to excellence that is propelling the digital asset management industry forward. Steve and 5th Kind represents the best of these qualities.”
