SMPTE reveals dates for 3D conferences and issues call for scientific, academic & technical papers 1

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) will hold its annual DCS Conference at NAB 2011 on April 9 through 10, 2011 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This year’s event-with the theme “Advances in Images and Sound: 3D, 4K, and Beyond”-will address a broad range of topics across cinema, broadcast, and broadband.

Co-produced by SMPTE, the annual DCS event brings together leading motion-imaging researchers, scientists, practitioners, and manufacturers. This year’s program will cover the latest developments in 3D motion and sound, as well as innovations in ultra-high definition capture and display. It will also include sessions on the latest developments and industry strategies across a broad range of technologies and applications spanning cinema, broadcast, and broadband. An overview of session topics and registration information are available at http://www.smpte.org/events/DCS2011/.

SMPTE also announced the dates for its second International Conference on Stereoscopic 3D for Entertainment and Media. To be held June 21 and 22, 2011 in New York City, this year’s event is reportedly the only scientific gathering to focus solely on the critical technologies needed for widespread and sustained 3D adoption, says a spokesperson. Conference registration opens 15 February 2011.

SMPTE is accepting scientific, academic, and technical papers for the 2011 3D event. Abstracts must be received no later than 28 February 2011; for submission instructions and topic areas, visit: http://www.smpte.org/events/2nd_Annual_3D_Conference_Call_for_Papers/.
