PRECO Helps Desert Sky Build Agile Live Production Business

BURBANK, Calif. – Jan. 7, 2009 – PRECO Inc., a leading distributor and systems integrator of advanced broadcast and production solutions, today announced that Desert Sky Media has standardized on its broadcast equipment sourcing services. PRECO has supplied the majority of the gear installed in Desert Sky’s mobile production systems, from uplink trucks, sound systems, and lightweight flyaways to the company’s new HD production truck.

“PRECO is our first call for every project we do,” said Mitchell Pietz, vice president at Desert Sky Media. “I have dealt with many different distributors and resellers, and no other company has been able to source equipment from manufacturers the way that PRECO does. The company’s staff maintains very strong relationships with vendors, is very knowledgeable with respect to their products, and takes a proactive approach in providing us with the systems we need, often within an extremely tight time frame.”

Desert Sky’s clients include the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, and numerous broadcast networks. When Desert Sky had just 12 days to design and build a nine-camera robotic production system in Iraq for coverage of Saddam Hussein’s war crimes trials, PRECO served not only as the general vendor, acquiring systems from manufacturers within days, but also provided warehouse space for staging and proof-of-concept testing.

With the exception of cameras supplied directly from Sony, the equipment Desert Sky uses for its live news and event production is delivered almost exclusively from PRECO. Along with equipment sales, PRECO provides Desert Sky with product education and training services, either directly or in concert with the manufacturer.

“People call our company because we can perform miracles at the last minute and will tackle unusual projects almost anywhere in the world. PRECO’s responsiveness to our needs allows us to meet the demands of our clients,” added Pietz. “I know that Desert Sky is not PRECO’s only customer, or its largest, but the company treats us as though we are.”
