Media Composer 101 - Advanced - Archiving your Project Part 3 - Automatic Duck's Media Copy 1

In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe goes further in-depth into archiving your Media Composer projects by looking at another paid for Third Party utility from a company that has come back from a bit of a hiatus. Automatic Duck’s Media Copy.  As great as free is, sometimes you need a little extra power to archive your projects quick and easy.

If you don’t know the name Automatic Duck, you must be new to Media Composer.  Automatic Duck is famous for one thing.  They developed the first workflow to take your Avid Media Composer timeline, and open it in Adobe’s After Effects.  I’ll be honest with you.  It was revolutionary at the time.  Now people think it’s old hat, as After Effects already has that functionality in After Effects CC.  Well, let me tell you a little secret.  It’s the same product!  That’s right.  A few years ago, Adobe bought and integrated Automatic Duck’s Pro Import for AE right into After Effects giving Media Composer editors the ability to open their MC timelines right in After Effects.  Well, after a bit of a hiatus, Automatic Duck is back, and they are bringing a couple of new products to the table, one of which is a utility called Media Copy. Sounds pretty straight forward.  Well to be honest, it is.  This utility is designed to take your Media Composer timelines, and copy them directly to an external hard drive.  As I’ve said before, as great as the “built-in” way of doing things was, sometimes a third party utility is great because it makes the job just so much easier, and let’s you get back to what’s imporant, and that’s editing.
