Light Iron – a post production leader specializing in on-site dailies, digital intermediate, archival, and data services for projects originated on file-based motion cameras – has unveiled an enhanced curriculum in its popular OUTPOST University program.

“We are making a serious and significant investment in educating professional creatives,” says Light Iron CEO Michael Cioni. “Technology changes rapidly, and this is our way of ensuring the community is not held back by technology, but rather empowered by it.”

The first course of OUTPOST University will now be available to students online. This “State of D-Cinema” class explains the history of file-based acquisition and provides solutions for managing associated challenges. After watching State of D-Cinema, students may register for in-person classes: Intro to On-Set Post, iPad Apps for Production, and Advanced On-Set Post.

All of the in-person classes are now offered at the new Light Iron OUTPOST facility, a 6,000 sq. foot building that enables more students to attend each class. This new facility also houses private training rooms where graduates of OUTPOST University can do hands-on training with Light Iron’s fleet of mobile post production systems.

Cioni notes that OUTPOST University began as informal sessions in Light Iron’s lobby years ago. “As demand increased for knowledge about file-based workflow, we built a dedicated classroom, and began educating small groups each week. Hundreds of professionals have attended since then.”
