In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe starts things off by talking about the importance of updating your BCC 10 effects package inside of Media Composer, and not just for the obvious reason of bug fixes, then he moves on and talks about transitions inside of BCC, and how with a little bit of creativity, you can take one transition, and with a few clicks of the mouse, create an infinite amount of variations, to keep your sequences fresh and interesting!
I’ll be honest, I have never been a big fan of transition effects in effects packages, as I never really thought they were very good. For most editors, much like myself, BCC8 was a turning point for a lot of us, as those of us who upgraded to Symphony got a copy of BCC8 included in your upgrade price. This is what turned the page for me when it came to using transitions other than wipes and dissolves in my edits. I started to see some unique looking transitions that didn’t look, well, cheesy. Fast forward to BCC 10 and we have a staggering thirty seven unique transition effects, that have the ability to be altered and changed to make them into different looks so, for example, if you have the Lens Flare Dissolve effect, that Lens Flare can be changed into any lens flare included in the FX Browser, or any lens flare that you can think up. Basically a new effect every time you use it. There isn’t a long form production that I do now, that doesn’t have at least two or three BCC transition effects in them, as they not only look great, but they are stylized and easily customizable.
