Most search engine optimization (SEO) experts agree that getting a first page ranking on Google and other search engines is increasingly difficult. The reasons for this difficulty have a lot to do with Google’s ever-evolving and inextricable search engine and indexing algorithms. But there is another important reason. First page return space is increasingly being devoted to video and photographs.

A study completed by Forrester Research found that videos were more than 50 times more probable to find their way to page-one rankings than traditional web pages.

This happens because of the search engine’s preferential treatment of video. Google is quite broad in its definition of video. A site may use actual video footage, photos, animated PowerPoint slides, screen captures or slideshows. Google cannot literally see the video or photo. Instead, it is dependent on title and other meta-data for the information on what is in the video.
