Picking the right G-RAID for you.
If you are looking for the lowest cost then look into the GRAID3 (USB3/FireWire) or GRAIDTH (Thunderbolt) fixed drives. They are available in 4TB or 8TB sizes. These units have drives integrated into them that cannot be removed. They come preconfigured in RAID 0 and cannot be set up any other way.
The GRU3 model has only USB3 connectivity. It comes in three sizes (8TB $599.95, 12TB $799.95 or 16TB for $1,199.95). GRU3 uses removable drives and can be configured as RAID0, 1 or JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Drives). Any decent computer made in the past 3 years, be it desktop or laptop, PC or Mac supports USB3. While not as fast as Thunderbolt, it is the next fastest level of connectivity. The 8TB and 12TB versions offer the best value and cost per GB.
The G-RAID7 has removable drives and it can be configured as RAID 0, 1 or JBOD. It has the most versatile connectivity supporting USB3, eSATA & FireWire. This is very important if you have a mixed environment of older PCs and Macs. With prices starting at under $500 it’s the least expensive way to get removable drives. You can get a 4TB model for $449.95! They have an 8TB model available for $699.95, but it’s a $100 more than the GRU3 model.
